In 1946, Avis Airlines Rent A Car System was founded by Warren E. Avis in Detroit, USA.
In 1953, Max. R. Spycher bought the license from Warren Avis and initiated the car rental business Zurich Airport under the company name of „Swissways Autovermietung“ with a fleet of 3 Volkswagen cars.
In 1965, Avis Inc. bought back the license and founded Avis Autovermietung.
